
ABOUT BAUCHI STATE
Bauchi state was created in 1976 and located in the North Eastern part of Nigeria. And at present, it is made up of 20 local government councils. Bauchi state occupies a total of 49,259.01 square km land area and this represent about 5.3% of Nigeria’s total land mass.

The State has an estimated population of over 7.6m with average growth rate of 3.3% annually. Strategically, the 20-65 years age bracket that constitutes the Economically Active Population, occupies 41.2% of the population.
Bauchi State has 55 ethnic groups, enrich with fascinating cultures and traditions and speak varied languages with Hausa language as the commonest among them but English is an official dominant language.
The State is located between latitudes 9031 and 12031 North of Equator. While on the East of Greenwich Meridian , the state lies between longitudes 8051 and 110.
The State spans between two ecological zones. Namely Sudan savannah and Sahel savannah. The State also has a rainfall regime from May to September that ranges from 700mm in the extreme north zone (Sahel) and 1300mm in the south (Sudan Savannah zone).
Topographically, the western side of the state is dominated by hill ranges of the Jos Plateau depicting characteristic extensive plateau surface and volcanic extrusions.

Temperature is generally high averaging 29c in July/Aug to 37c in Mar/April. While the cold hazy wind of hamattan usually drops the temperature to about 11c in Dec/Jan.
Bauchi state has quite a strategic place in this regard. Clearly, with a developed robust solar powered energy sector, surplus generated energy could have a ready market giving the State’s proximity to other states in North East region where power inadequacy remains a dominant threat for economic growth and development.
Already four different renewable energy generating companies are being engaged at strategic locations within the State and work is ongoing to generate a combined estimated energy output of 200MW.
As shown in the irradiation map below, Bauchi state is located in the highest solar irradiation zone of Nigeria and would thus be an ideal location to serve as a hub for both production of the required equipment and solar generation of electricity for use by the new industries. This could service the needs of local Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises who struggle to serve local communities without efficient supplies of electricity.
